My little adventure into the world of blogging. We'll see how it goes.

Well the Olympics are underway now, and they should be very interesting. Athens has caught a lot of flack for not being ready even though they had seven years. It appears that the Greeks are also having drug problems now that their two top athletes have been implicated. Here is are the three stories I am most interested in as far as actual play go.

1. Swimming: Being a swimmer in high school for four years my interest in this event is obviously high. Michael Phelps stands on the brink of breaking Mark Spitz's gold medal record. The fact that the pool is roofless should also make life interesting. The heat will affect the swimmers performances and it will be interesting to see if any records are shattered at all.

2. Basketball: The United States has never been shakier in this sport. Right now they look like underdogs, yet everyone will still want to knock them off. I figured that 2002 would be a wake up call to the NBA stars that the world has caught up and our game has gone downhill. But apparently, they're still too busy counting the bling. Perhaps if the team comes home medal less, USA Basketball and the NBA will reform the game and the players will come to.

3. Soccer: How 'bout them Iraqis. In a prelim game, the Iraqis stunned Portugal 4-2. Now I know that Olympic soccer pales in comparison to the World Cup, but a medal for the fledgeling team would be a great boost to morale for the Iraqi people. And if they were to come against France and beat 'em, that would be icing on the cake.

So those are my thoughts. Let the games begin!
